Day 16 of posting cheap but beautiful card(s) from my collection until this hobby isn't cooked.

Mail day. No analysis today, just some beautiful cards. I had a $50 Ebay voucher for Christmas to use, and I was able to get all these cards with it. Obviously ripping packs is fun, and hitting a giant chase card can be exhilarating (for me, it was pulling the gold VSTAR Giratina from Crown Zenith), but it is also expensive. People often fall into a sunken cost fallacy where they want an expensive card, can't justify buying it outright, but will spend more money on packs chasing it for the experience of opening packs. If that's what' you want out of this hobby; the fun and exhilaration of opening packs, awesome, but if it's more about the collecting, and you find yourself disappointed opening packs more often than not, switch to buying singles. By switching to buying singles, and switching to buying Japanese instead of English I can get so many affordable and beautiful cards that I wouldn't have been able to before. If I had spent $50 on packs, even if it had been the luckiest rip session ever (short of a god pack), I would not have pulled this many cards that I love. Now, instead of ripping packs, I've spent less money, and I have more beautiful cards to put into my Pokedex binder. submitted by /u/Galactic_Gandalf95 [link] [comments]
